Dnia 6 października 2001 r. weszła w życie ustawa o zmianie ustawy o rachunkowości oraz niektórych innych ustaw [Dz. U. nr 102, poz. 1117]. Zgodnie z nowelizacją osoby fizyczne, spółki cywilne i jawne osób fizycznych, a także spółki partnerskie, których przychody w poprzednim roku były niższe niż równowartość 800 tys. euro, będą mogły nadal prowadzić księgę przychodów i rozchodów. Począwszy od 2002 r. spółki osobowe oraz cywilne, które przekształcą się w inne osobowe, nie będą musiały zamykać i otwierać ksiąg rachunkowych. Będzie to również dotyczyć łączenia spółek osobowych, jeśli powstaną przez łączenie udziałów i nie zostanie utworzona w ten sposób nowa jednostka.
